Why did you join JxnYP?
I started my professional career in downtown Jackson in 2016 at a community bank and sat near a guy who is still a close friend, Matt Parks. At the time, Matt was serving on the board of JxnYP as the Professional Development Chair. One evening, instead of going straight home to do homework for my BBA course, Matt talked me into joining a JxnYP event. This event showed me the impact an organization could have on people looking to better themselves. Those three hours gave me the opportunity to practice public speaking, network with other young professionals, and communicate with older professionals who are looking to mentor the next generation. The next day, I signed up for my JxnYP membership and have been working to share that experience with anyone making a life for themselves in my hometown of Jackson, MI.
Build Relationships: What is your favorite relationship you've built through JxnYP?
JxnYP has introduced me to a cast of characters! Many new friends to celebrate birthdays with and to enjoy the accomplishments life has to offer. However, there is one relationship that takes the cake. I met my fiancé, Megan Mello, indirectly through JxnYP. I am currently impatiently awaiting the day I get to marry her. The relationships built with mentors also serve a wonderful purpose. My career has also excelled through relationships built in JxnYP: It introduced me to a partner of my accounting firm three years before starting at the firm, Bradley Johncox.
Have Fun: If we could bring ONE new fun thing to Jackson, what would it be?
Trampoline parks have caught my attention from other cities such as Lansing. Not only are they a fun place to take your kids as a parent (acknowledging the liability of a trampoline park,) but they make for a perfect first date night! I would love to throw a JxnYP event at a trampoline park. Not only does having fun help you enjoy your own life, but you learn more about someone in an hour of play than in a week of work and discussion.
LOVE Jackson: What do you love most about Jackson?
Jackson is my birth place and I am very proud to say this. My friends, neighbors and community are what I love most about Jackson. Jackson has so much potential to become a destination for the new workforce, businesses and families. Bright Walls is one project I have been a part of since its inception. This project has helped inspire others to come to Jackson. I believe we, as an organization and as individuals, can help encourage through building relationships, having fun, and loving Jackson!
